HASH - Architecture Museum Nanjing March 16, 2014

Yesterday was the first spring time hash and it felt more like summer than spring.  We reached a temperature of around 24°C with the sun beating down on us.
We met up in town at a bus stop and then rode the bus for 40 minutes to the outskirts of the city and then began our walk.  We didn't get back on the bus until almost 5pm (after getting on the bus at 12:40pm).
The story of this park is that this rich man had so much money and was bored so he decided to buy a large patch of land on the outskirts of Nanjing and have 22 architects from around the world design and build different houses.  I'm not sure if there is an intention to resell these houses or rent them out once completed but for right now even the finished ones are standing empty (and some are already rusting in some places).

Here are the pics from the day.

Walking through a tree park...

That they are destructing.

Heavy machinery right in the roadway.

The Art Museum with the Architecture Park

Our first view of the park.

Hashers walking among the buildings.

The Chinese wouldn't let us use the standard chalk on the ground for directions so our Hares had to be creative and use clothes pegs to make the path.  It was very similar to an Easter Egg hunt.

Creative method for telling us NOT to go this way.

Beer Stop

No beer for Stephanie, just Iced Tea.

House with a strange pond on top of the house.  Not good for parties.

See on top of the building - look to the right you can see the ramp up.

On the roof there were also large holes looking down into the house - again not good for parties.

Bamboo house, with a ring of bamboo poles around the patio.

From the outside it kind of looks like a cage.

But the shadow effect from the bamboo is cool.

The Waterside Pavillion

Inside, more party area than living area - those benches are the only sleeping services in the entire building.

Circle at the end, only down-down for Stephanie was when everyone got in trouble for not actually finishing the trail (we stopped when we saw the buses.)

Sunday 9 March 2014

Exploration (aka Solo Hash)

So today marked the beginning of Spring in Nanjing.  We reached a high of 14 celsius, the sun was shining and there was barely any smog.
To celebrate I went out for a bike ride/walk around a part of the area I live in that I had never visited before.
I left my apartment at 12:10, and returned home at 4:10 (not planned I swear and not rounding), this time frame also included a brief fuel up at Starbucks and then some quick grocery shopping.

First Off, my route as according to Google Maps (I biked less than half of this).  The map does a poor job in showing that I biked around the interior of the Olympic Stadium (the giant round about in the middle of the map).

And now the pics.

Inside the Olympic Park

Biking around the Olympic Park

A young family flying a kite, now walking (12:40pm)

Nearby Library, I never knew!

My map app wanted me to go straight but there was construction, so I had to find a way around.

Which brought me back to the library and I walked around it. No idea about the brain-like thing on the right hand side.

In the same area, a church and another building.

I think pretzel-like things, I wasn't brave.

Greenery.

YOU SHALL NOT PASS!

Just kidding, there's a hole in the wall.

The 8 lane highway I needed to get across to get to the scenic area which was my goal for the walk.

I made, and found more construction.

Lots of families out with their tents and their kites, spring is here.

See the plum blossoms are in bloom (I think they may be early)

I didn't have enough energy to make it all the way to the windmill in the distance - next time!!

Back on a bike and headed to Starbucks (2:45pm).
